Inletting single set triggers
« on: May 13, 2021, 11:39:55 PM »
Hello folks. Is there a tutorial here how to do this ? My concern is getting proper alignment with the sear to trip trigger. I dont want to have a longer inlet than necessary to get it to work. I am ok with the dst types, just these single rascals give me gass. lol
Thanks a bunch. Dave F 8) 8)

If I understand your question correctly I just center the trigger bar on the sear arm and inlet away. Easier than trying to set up a double phase. At least for me anyway. 😁

Thanks Ross. Makes perfect sense, bein how we center the 2 triggs on the sear. I have done many dsts, Hawken long bars, that I just plum forgot. I have several new builds  in nice stocks I dont want to mess up with the trigger inlet. Have a wunnerful day my bro. Best regards, Dave F 8) 8)

Dave:  I always make a profile drawing/blueprint of my rifle and pistol builds so I can see the relationship of the parts .  That way, there are no surprises of the negative kind.
To make these profile drawings, I start by drawing the barrel full scale, marking the end of the breech plug threaded journal, and thus, the vent hole.  Next, the lock plate is superimposed over the barrel and drawn in.  I make a black dot with a felt pen on the outside of the lock plate where the sear arm is so that I can now locate the position of the trigger(s).  Once the trigger(s) have been added to the drawing, it is easy to determine the length of pull and where the butt plate goes.  Positioning the butt plate also has lots to do with the drop you want at the comb and at the heel.  Drawing in the outline of the buttstock follows naturally now, taking into consideration the school of the rifle and any other idiosyncrasies it may have.

Thanks all, and Taylor.  I am working this build from a print showing location of all the stuff, and see the importance of such. So far,so good. I usually build free style ,somewhat, and am not building from blank anymore because of hand/ arthritis/carpal tunnel/ old age wore out mechanic. lol.

Good news y'all !! I got them in and functioning with the lock, just like they want to. Took triggers apart, carefully let the plate in only as deep as necessary, then began inletting the rear spring, etc. . These are from a collection of Myron Carlson handmade parts for a Bean rifle. Have the guard on but not inlet.
I will post some pics when I can. Bill Large 13/16 barrel, 33 calx 42 ", new Russ Hamm flintlock, and Mr Carlsons iron work, on a grade 4 cm from our friends at Pecatonica..
Have a wunnerful evening my friends. Dave F 8) 8)
