Comments:
Quality of workmanship and speculation about the maker aside, my feeling is that this firearm really falls more into the category of a transitional exhibit than a long rifle. While retaining some features of the long rifle, it's as much different from the antique fowler as the "modern" form of the double barrel shotgun which began to appear roughly in the late 1850's and became the standard during the Civil War.
