ML ID help
« on: June 13, 2022, 04:19:13 PM »
Hey all,
im looking for some input and help in trying to ID this rifle that came into my shop. This was found, along with a few other guns, boarded up in the wall of an old farmhouse by the customer. Its 36 caliber, with "Ketland & Co." and "1860" engraved on the sidelock and the initials "G.L.A." on the trigger guard. It has a brass insert on the rear sight with what appears to be a "windage" notch.  HAs a check piece and some designs cut into the screw heads and the under rib of the barrel. It also is checkered.  I know Ketland Co. made locks but i have not found any marks as to a builder. Im trying to get an idea on the age (if the "1860" is correct) and any info i can. It appears to me that it might have been special built for someone (Probably the "G.L.A" from the trigger guard.)

Any input and thoughts are welcome.

Bull

Probably made in  the 1950-1970 era as some sort of target rifle.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?
