To my eye, you. have a fowler, and a darned good one, made by one of the celebrated Sheetz family. It appears to be an early one as well. Condition suggests that it was long loved, and used hard, but that is what it was built for. Certainly worth some modest conservation/restoration to make sure that it survives another century or two. It was flintlock when it started its period of service and converted to cap and ball. Can you give us some numbers such as overall length, barrel length, stock wood, and such? You are very fortunate to find this attic jewel and a big 'thank you' for showing it here. There will be a lot of drooling over this one! Buck has made a good suggestion, by the way.
