Books On Southern Mountain Rifles

Are there are any books dedicated to Southern Mountain Rifles?

I like to looks of them and would like to learn more.

Books I have include...

1. "Kentucky Rifles of the Great Smoky Mountains" by Randal Pierce - there is also a CD of photos available through the Kentucky Rifle Foundation.
2. "Notes on Southern Long Rifles" by Jerry Noble - there are 4 volumes.
3. "The Gillespie Gunmakers of East Fork NC" by T. Dennis Glazener.
4. "North Carolina Schools of Longrifles 1765-1865" by William W. Ivey - it contains a lot more than just Appalachian school longrifles.
5. "Kentucky Gunmakers" by Shelby W. Gallien - it's a set of 3 volumes... vol 1, vol 2, and "Epilogue". The focus is on guns made in Kentucky, and covers all the schools including "Mountain" rifles.
6. "Guns and Gunmaking Tools of Southern Appalachia" by John Rice Irwin
7. "Foxfire 5" edited by Eliot Wigginton

There were several books published in the last 5-10 years that I don't have. The "Gunmakers and Allied Tradesmen of..." series of books provide state-specific information. I don't have any of these books in my library.

Some of the authors above are members here. This forum has the most extensive collection of photos I've found anywhere. You can search within the forum... or just do a Google search and it will take you to the photos on this forum. Photos of original rifles have also been posted to the contemporary makers blog over the years.

Jerry Nobel's 4 book series is IMHO the very best.  I understand that he still may have some and probably some here on the forum can provide contact info, which I do not have.  Got mine in an estate sale.

  .. "The Muzzleloading Rifle Then and Now" (1941) by Walter M. Cline is an excellent book telling the story of Tennessee rifles, especially Soddy and Smoky Mountain rifles,.. also would recommend the old (1928) book, "Lure of the Great Smokies" by Robert L. Mason,.. a great book with some illustrations and great stories of Smoky Mountain shooters,... both enjoyable and informative,.... regards,... CCF

What a great little paper.  Wish I had the opportunity to meet and talk to him.  Shocked at how often I refer back to this as a refresher given it's age.
