My Chambers Virginia
« on: January 25, 2023, 12:26:06 AM »
I bought this Chamber Mark Silver Virginia kit in 2005 and started to work on it and then stopped. It had been in my closets until last Winter and survived two moves around the country. Last winter I sent it off and had it completed. Got it this May. Shoots wonderfully accurate and I love it. 17 year wait. Stupid.

Might be a Chuck Edwards.

Hi,
I agree, I think it is either Chuck or Ed.  Nice gun.

It is a very nicely designed rifle.  I have one with two barrels, ie:  .50 cal and .60 cal.  I love shooting it, with either barrel.

Mine is a .54.  A .60 or .62 would be nice and light.

I had one in 58 that was also a great shooting and handling rifle. Mine was not near as nice as yours but it shot well.

Beautiful rifle.
A question ...........Is the Kibler Colonial and the rifle pictured here basically the same rifle?  If i could clarify my question further.  Do these rifles represent the same time period and area of origin?  They look like basically the same rifle to my untrained eye.

Probably the same time period, maybe some overlap in area of origin, totally different stock architecture though, so certainly not the same rifle.

I don’t know if Mark Silver (the designer of the Chambers “Virginia” rifle) used an existing original for the design, or did a more interpreted approach.  At any rate, it appears Mark wanted something with a more English flare, hence the round toe and Fowler style butt piece, and other English attributes, that might point to a more Southern “Virginia” rifle.  At any rate, it’s a great kit, and I think, makes a really nice rifle.

I think Jim’s kit is more of a “generic” rifle that would be absolutely appropriate for a rifle from the Lancaster, PA area, down through the Winchester area to the schools of Augusta, Rockbridge, and Botetourt counties of the mid portion of the Valley.  Lots of options with Jim’s “Colonial” rifle!

That’s my take on the two rifles, anyway.   Best,

          Ed

That rifle is nothing short of gorgeous.  I had a nice VA. rifle years ago with a very similar metal treatment which is my favorite on such rifles.

Yep.  When the pictures opened I said, "Ed Wenger".  All in a good way (as usual for Ed's work).  A lovely rifle all around.   God Bless,   Marc
