Identification Assistance Requested "DS" Rifle
« on: February 03, 2023, 10:52:40 PM »
Looking for clues and input for identifying this brass-mounted longrifle.

It was originally identified as coming from the Dan Wallace Collection and possible being made by David Smith of Warrior Mountain, AL.

Barrel is stamped "DS" in the "10 o'clock" position near the breach. Overall Length is 59 1/2 inches, Barrel is 43 1/2 inches, LOP is 13 3/4th inches. It's a  .36 caliber.

Thanks in advance!

Nice rifle. Looks southern to me. Lock looks like a re-purposed flintlock. Maybe a Pennsylvania trained gunsmith who moved south?
As in life; it’s the journey, not the destination. How you get there matters most.
