Barrel Maker ID Help
« on: November 17, 2009, 01:18:54 AM »
I have a longrifle with a barrel that is stamped TRYON Phila on the top flat in the usual position. On a lower flat near the plug is stamped an elongated oval with the letters GR inside.  The barrel is 47 1/2" long and is swamped. The rifle could be from the 1820 to 1830 period. Anyone have an idea as to barrel maker?

George and E. K. Tryon were commercial maker's of guns in Philadelphia PA. I think George retired in the 1840''s.  Edward joined the company in the late 1830's and retired in the 1860's.
