June Postal Match
« on: June 02, 2023, 05:22:35 AM »
Third time is the charm, right.

Simpler rules:
5 shots on paper, 25meters or 25 yards, depending on how your range is set up,  offhand.

Half ball to determines score.

Rifle version:

Smoothbore version:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/tpvmbhfokwaitir/ALR_June_2023_Smooth.pdf?dl=0

NOTE! Please download to your computer first, open that version to print. Printing straight from the site seems to cause issues.

Added reference scale to the print. Let me know of there's any issues.

Jakob,
At what distance are we supposed to shoot this "challenge" and is it from the bench, offhand? Printer does not provide a black frame around the page and as a consequence the tens are about 3/4ths inch along the straight leg. Is this right or should the black extend to the edge of the paper (thereby making the ten about 7/8ths). Not sure my eyes will see the 10 at 25 yards, let alone 50.

Interesting target, and there are similar NMLRA targets. Only problem I have is that when shooting in competition at paper targets typically you have a time limit and only the balls on the paper can be scored.
Only the upper 10 rings printed completely on my printer, the lower ones where the same width, but half as tall.
When I shoot at this target, I will be aiming at the  quarter ten rings. So probably my misses are going to be outside the paper. So in theory I may shoot 20 balls and get 5 tens. You can't police how many shots are taken in a competition with range officers, and you certainly will not be able to do it here.
I like the idea and I like the target, but if I may make a suggestion, there is plenty of room to insert a complete bull in the center by omitting the 2 ring on the center bull. That gives five bulls to shoot at.
I will shoot at whatever you decide but we do need a distance, and position.

My targets printed with a slight white border and essentially 1/4 of a bullseye for the top corners and just slightly less for the lower corners.

Ah, yes, 25 meters, offhand.
Going by the last round, people here can certainly shoot offhand quite well!
No, I can’t police the amount of shots, but would expect people here to adhere to it.

I just had an idea to make the printing of the target more reliable, which will also require a slight tweak to the rules. Won’t be able to fix it until I get home, but please hold off printing & shooting

It’s being updated, is my best guess.

Targets reposted, with simpler rules. I should have put more thought into this, apologies.

Thanks, Jakob as the new version clarifies things and even my antique eyes should be able to see the black corners - now hitting them is another matter altogether! Target also printed better. The zero ring has my name on it!  ;D Five offhand shots on the paper at 25 meters (equals 27.34 yards).

Thank you Jakob, I look forward to shooting this target. For one thing I think I will be able to see the corners. I don't think the corners of the other target were visible at 25 yards. Just printed one, looks good.

Hey I’m in the lead! First to post is always in the lead for a moment. I’ll keep after this target, no tricks like overlaying it with dots.

Rich:  can you post a link that puts the whole target on the page?  I printed ten off and found I only got 1/4 of the target on my copies.

I tried printing directly from the web site, and only got a quarter of the target.  I dragged the image to my desktop and printed it from there, then everything was to scale.  Looks like a challenging target.  I like it.

Jacob:  I see your rules say 5 shots on paper, but there are only four "bulls".  So one of them will need to have two shots in it.  Yes?

Yes, one make-up shot :)
My idea would be to improve your worst shot.

I'm glad you clarified that. The way it read before one could shoot all five in one corner.

I am rather good at not hitting centre, so might do well on this target!
Just aim at the centre and all should be well!

Decent Rich. Looks like a 36 to me. Tough target. Just happened to be in cell service for a short while. Now, back to the lake.
