We had a good hatch of squirrels this year. They’re everywhere.

Our Skwirl season opens up this coming Friday in Arizona. Hope to spend the day in the Forest with my .40 or maybe my .62 or maybe my .660 decisions decisions.

Greys and fox mixed…. Greys in the woods, foxes in the edges
Greys still got their summer hair, tails and belly show the grey

Nice batch of greys. Well done.
Our red squirrels are inedible, much like a Spruce cone would be.

Good shooting, and good eating!

our foxes are about 25% bigger than the greys, but they dont play well together and the greys run the foxes out.  They stay on opposite sides of the roads around here.

Foxes are bigger, but I think about 50% dumber?  At least it's only the foxes I ever see dead in the middle of the road.  They're also the only ones I ever see alive IN the road.  Maybe they're just too big and slow to get out of the road in time?

We call the smaller red things 'ground squirrels'.  About like chipmunks, without the racing stripes.  The stray cats apparently like the taste of both!

Here’s a picture of the same young man on the day that I gave him this rifle in the late fall of 2013. This is his go to gun and he’s good with it!

Austin, I must apologize for not giving proper praise to your squirrel bounty. A lot of folks shoot squirrels but not many can say they did it with a flintlock.
Well done!
Not an excuse but when I saw all those squirrels on the tailgate, I was jealous about the fact you all get to shoot squirrels in the Summer. Then all I could think of, is that I will have a go at the tree rats this coming weekend.

That is just GREAT. It’s cool to see both pictures. I wouldn’t have recognized him from his younger photo.

Most of my squirrel hunting was done in Georgia, both gray and fox.  The thing that stood out about hunting fox squirrels is that not only are they much larger than the grays but they also sit still for a shot and don't just "jet" away.

We had lots of fox and plenty of grays so comparing the two was super easy.  So, dumb?  That might be their problem.  The difference in size between the two species down South is rather stunning.  I have a fox mounted which I'd do with a gray.  They also have a wide variety of colors and markings.
