Cool aperture sight, looks like a very Anschutz sight.

I like the peeps on this and my other jaeger also. I need a peep, if I actually want to hit something, since I just cannot see open rear anymore. I got two of these sites from 2 different members on this forum, not knowing what I would use them on. When I got to building the 2 jaegers this last winter I thought they looked old school enough to be used on them, even though few if any jaegers are known to have peeps (based on threads read on our gun building forum).

Well, we got out. The sun was nice and warm and snow crusted up so we were walking on top.
It got a little bit soft out in the sun, by 3PM.
We did not shoot well, however:
This is what we have to show for it.
My 25 yard target might be a 47/50 1X - whatever.

Daryl and I enjoyed our shooting outing yesterday.  Very springlike temperature and no wind to speak of.  Boy it sure shows that we haven't
been shooting offhand as much as we need to.  I used my Herman Rupp effort in .50 cal for the 25 yard offhand part.  It likes a .495" pure lead ball, .018" denim patch and Lehigh Valley lube on top of 70 gr. of FFG GOEX.  As with all of you, I am not happy about my inability to hit the bull every time.  I fear those days may be gone.  But I submit what I shot so here's my 25 yard target...

We shot the 50 yard match a couple weeks after the 25 yard target, and this time I used my Kibler mountain rifle in .40 cal, .395" pure lead ball, .018" patch and Lehigh Valley Lube over 65 gr. FFFg GOEX.  I primed with FFFFg GOEX.  My ignition was excellent today as it usually is with this fine rifle,  the sight picture solid and clear, and I used a bud on the target face so I could see the bull from 50 yards.  We shot this from a table resting out elbows.  Facing east, the target was in bright sunshine while we shot from the shade.  There are four shots in that cluster in the bull.

Wonderful target, Taylor. I used to be able to shoot like that (with the flyer, normally LOL) ;)

PK, did you get a second target shot?

Nice day here, I should have waited until today. It's 36 sunny and calm.

Happy Easter

I got out today at 5:00 PM, as the company had left, and the light was perfect.  It was smoothbore day , and when I think of the couple of times I almost sold this gun, I kick myself.  I shot 50 yards first in case the light went. Braced against a tree, 100 gr FFg in a paper cartridge , .600 ball

I only had 6 cartridges made up so switched to bare .610 ball on 100 gr FFg with a wet HBC blanket wad on top for the 25 yard off hand

That 20 bore of yours sure likes the paper ctgs. Bob.
Absolutely no lies on that 25 yard target, either.

OK, its April 1. With 5 and 1/2 entries (PK had only the 25 yard target) it looks to me like D. Taylor Sapergia is the winner for March with what I score as 96 x. (I have him at 47 on the 25 yard and 49x on the 50 yard, excellent targets for sure.)

Weather is sure to improve as we get into spring so I am looking forward to actually sighting in one of my jaegers and trying whatever he gives us for a target this month.

We couldn't see the holes in his 50 yard target with our binocs, as we were shooting those targets, so what a nice surprise when we got down to collect them.
The hole at 4 o'clock is the double, with the second ball slightly towards 4:30 o'clock. It was quite obvious on the target, less so in his photo.
Just noticed, you had a quite low humidity day, Bob.

Hi Daryl. Yes.  Low humidity and cold.  They say we're getting snow again on Wednesday .  Even with the low humidity I didn't have trouble loading those 5 paper cartridges.  The bare ball [ .610 ] with the blanket wad on top had more fouling than the cartridges. The wads were very wet, so not a problem, as they cleaned the bore going down, but when I first dropped in the balls, they were hanging up above the powder charge

I wondered about that, Bob. I was going to test the bare ball 'loading' method in my 20 bore flinter, but never got around to it, although I do have some .600" balls to try it with.
My muzzle is .615" in diameter, and about .005" choked so it has a .620" bore. It throws beautiful modified choke patterns.
