« on: March 14, 2024, 05:18:09 PM »
From Southern Ohio Artisan Workshops  -

We have some great workshops scheduled for Spring of 2024!  All of these classes will take place at the Log Cabin Shop in Lodi, Ohio.  This time around we'll be offering....

May 16-19  -  James Black style Bowie Knife.  Join well known artisan bladesmith Steve Auvenshine in this four day hands -on workshop and learn the intricacies of making your own guardless Bowie Knife in the style attributed to James Black. Prior knifemaking experience is required to register for this class!

May 16-19  -  Tomahawk Workshop . Learn to make traditionally styled tomahawks with blacksmith artist Simeon England. For years Simeon has carefully researched historical methods of tomahawk construction, and in this class he will share with you his resulting techniques for proper tomahawk forging including the forge welding of steel bits. Some blacksmithing experience required , but forge welding experience not necessary.

May 17-19 Brain Tanning Workshop.  Turn deer hide into buckskin with Kaitlin Proppe. In this three day hands-on workshop, you will learn how to produce buckskin using fats, oil, and smoke, by the use of your hands and body, along with the help of a few simple tools. Work solo or in pairs (bring a friend, or meet a new one).  Hides, tools, and equipment will be supplied. All experience levels welcome!

May 17-19 Tumpline Weaving Workshop. Tumplines, also known as burden straps, have been used by many cultures throughout history to carry bulky loads over long distances. In this class, multi -talented artisan Kerry Masarik of Horn and Fiber will teach you how to hand weave an 18 foot tumpline using linen and wool. Weaving experience is not required for this project.

May 17-19  Scrimshaw with Kathy England - Class has filled, currently accepting alternates

Kathy England's scrimshaw class is full, but we still have a little space left in the other workshops. As we often do, we have a good variety of classes this time - maybe share the ride with a friend or spouse who'd be interested in a class too !

if you're interested in a class, check out the Southern Ohio Artisan Workshops website at the link listed above. All the workshops are listed individually there with class dates, full descriptions and photos. You can request more info through the website or I am happy to answer questions here.
