Mike Brooks blast from the past
« on: April 02, 2024, 07:19:57 PM »
Well the Fedex truck dropped off a couple of wonderfully unmolested Mike Brooks earlier work, No120, and No159 late yesterday afternoon, had time to run a few balls through one of them before dark. Love his work. Good stuff.

It’s great to see this stuff. Brooks has been a great maker for a lot of years.

By the looks of the dirt and the size of the corn, they no longer reside in Iowa! Beautiful rifles, great score!

They sure are beautiful rifles. We're only now merely thawing out our fields, some still under snow.

Very good looking rifles~ I'll bet they are fun to shoot.
Almost 40 numbers apart~ How many years might that span?

Maybe 2 1/2 years back in that time period. There were times in my career I had to be very productive. Some years I had to build 14-18 guns decorated to that level a year just to get the bills paid. Doing this sort of thing as a hobby and doing this sort of thing for a fulltime income are two very different things.
Guns decorated to that level probably took 60-65 hours each back then.

The fit, finish and function on Mike's work that I have collected over the years is always perfect and a good investment. Usable American art that retains its value.
Good stuff. Color me happy.

Mike builds a great gun. I'm lucky enough to get one of the  last ones he made and maybe the last contract rifle. It is a gorgeous left-handed Lehigh. Love  the way it handles and shoots. Thanks Mike!! Maybe we'll see you at Stoner's in August!!!

I believe the one side plate has a hog engraved ? I find many attributes when looking a Mike's rifles his engraving is truly stands on its own merits - like a signature . I would really like a thread started of just Brook's rifles maybe Mike has photos of some he could post ? I'm very interested in Mikes builds .
