New .40 caliber. First 3 shots
« on: May 16, 2024, 12:18:56 AM »

Don’t think I need to do anything else. First three shots from 25 yards, rolled up raincoat for a rest. Kibler parts, goes of super fast. 40 grains 2f, .018 denim, .395 ball.

Looking good. Good load, too. You might want about 65gr. for 50 yards or further. That's what my Goodoien liked with a water/based lube.

That’s a fantastic start. Your rifle is beautiful, I love half stocks. Can you tell us more about the rifle please?

I wanted an SMR halfstock, so I bought a practice stock and all the kit parts from Kibler. Saved a couple dollars that way. They sent a nice walnut stock that was perfect to use for a halfstock. Poured a pewter nosecap and made a wooden rib from persimmon. Routed a shallow barrel channel in the rib wood first and then cut it out and hand planed the under rib. Pinned it to the barrel lugs and pinned on the thimbles. The wood is finished with boiled linseed oil and a few drops of spar varnish. I added more varnish to a few more coats since these pictures and the grain is filled better now.  Weight is 6# 5 ounces.

Nice rifle Okabow. It is great when sights on a new rifle line up perfectly without adjustments.
