Southewestern Virginia Squirrel Rifles

These rifles were made by my family in what is now Raleigh Co.WV. Likely 1850 ish to 1880’s.  Look at the lock molding . Or more important the lack of It.  The rear and lower edges at the lock just smoothly taper into the overall stock geometry. A smooth transition line  all the way to the but plate. So instead of a wide butt tapering out up the stock the plate is the narrowest part of the Butt stock.  It’s actually pretty fetching.  I wonder if some of you , who are familiar with the various schools , could tell me where they might have seen this geometry on a particular older school of rifles.  I’d be surprised if they came up with this but it’s different than about all other western Virginia makers that I have had a chance to hold.
