Alacran, that's an excellent ofhand target! And in a wind!  Daryl is spot on - 39-1x/50. (I'm surpirsed he quit catching fish long enough to check in on the rest of us deprived souls  ;D). I sure hope that you will get your cross-sticks out and have another go at the rabbit! Thanks for shooting.

I forgot to take a picture, but my score was basically ZERO anyways aside from the 5 points for hitting the body. ;D All of my shots were two inches high.  :o

Seth, I know that feeling - too well! Hope that you'll take another crack at that rabbit! My only prayer these days is to shoot from a rest of some sort. Just the realities of my becoming a certified antique. But it's still fun and I sure have learned to laugh at my frailties. Not many useful options besides laughter.

I hope to get out again this weekend with my glasses on instead of contacts. I was wondering if shooting in my contacts was changing my focus or something, because I don't usually consistently shoot high with this rifle.

Finally got out again with my new rifle. 44” Colrain round bottom groove. Used 50 grains 2F old Eynesford behind a denim patched .490 ball. 25 yards offhand, perfect light and wind conditions. Tried a second target, but the light was bad. Too much shadow. Every shot went 2” high. Anyway, this is as good as I’ll ever do, and probably just lucky.

okawbow,
Beautiful rifle and a great target! You have moved into the lead with a score of 42 - offhand no less! Clearly, you and the new rifle work really well together. Way to go!

Folks,
One more weekend to get out and shoot the rabbit for the September postal match! A few more targets would be really great!

For those impacted by this hurricane, I hope all of you and your loved ones are safe and well. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Good target Okawbow! That’s a tough target, unfortunately it’s been raining here for 2 days and calling for more tomorrow. I’m going to have to wait for the October match

I used a sighting target like JB suggested and it really helped let me see the spot I wanted to hit. Hard to see the rings otherwise.

It was very windy this morning and decided not to go shooting. Things changed in the afternoon and the wind was virtually gone.
I changed my mind about shooting, but I had to finish a honey do I started in the morning.
By the time I got to the creek bottom it was about three thirty. I printed three targets yesterday and that's what I shot.
No wind but the light kept going from bright to dark lots of clouds. I shot the three targets in 40 minutes.
My first target scores a 28, my second target was my best with a 40 2x. The third target is not worth mentioning.
I shot offhand at a lasered 25 yards. I used .440 balls, 50 grains of Goex 3f. and .024 canvas patching with bear lube.
I did not use any sighting aids. I shot the targets as printed which I also did in my previous entry.

alacran,
On the first target, I was a little more generous and scored the squeaker neck shot as a five for a total of 33 on the first target. Your second target is a 40-2x as you called it  - really nice shooting! Those variable light conditions that you describe are TOUGH! The range where I shoot with Marc is surrounded by trees and the variable light gives me fits. You did well!

Good target Alacran! I can’t see the rings well enough to shoot without a pointer.

I didn't have time to muck about with pointers, had to make it back home for supper.

Now getting home for supper is serious business!  ;D You are right that using the shooting aid does take time. Clearly, your eyes are still hanging in there. Wish mine were. Good shooting.

The winner for the September ALR Postal Match is okawbow with a score of 42. Nice shooting okawbow. Second place goes to alacran with another fine target scoring 40-2x.

Okawbow, the October match is all yours to decide. We are heading into a glorius time of the year and shooting weather should be great for a lot of members.

Thanks, to all of the participants in the September shoot.
