Tom Hall auction
« on: November 11, 2024, 10:45:24 PM »
Tom Hall auctions located at:

4644 Main Street
Schnecksville, PA 18078

The auction is for the Estate collection of KRA Member Steve Hilburg.
I got the opportunity to drive up and look at the collection.

There is a lot of original rifles from the Lehigh and upper Susquehanna area.
Some signed and some not signed. The auction is December 12. They should be getting pictures up soon.

But here’s a sneak peek I filmed:

Not that far from me. Maybe I will check it out. Not that I can afford to buy anything....

It's weird in that it's only online bidding, but they don't have a way to view the collection without physically being there to see it.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention. Can't understand why the company hasn't uploaded pictures and lots yet?

I reached out to Tom Hall Auctions, see below:

There is live bidding as well, the auction will be held at the club at twin Lakes 3625 Shankweiler Rd., Allentown, PA 18104. It’s only two or 3 miles away from our Auction gallery. People can start previewing the Guns auction day at 10 AM right through the auction, or if you know anyone that wants an early preview, tell them to give me a call.

A lot of interesting stuff there.  In so, sooooo many ways.
Strange women lying in ponds, distributing swords, is no basis for a system of government!

There are three lots assigned to a "John Henry"--described as "legendary" in the opening write up--but the gunsmith they mean never went by that name (nor is he ever called that name in modern write-ups).

The auction house means J. Joseph Henry (1786-1836), and it has a set of his pistols (better identified, but the auction house seems unaware that the rifles are by the same gunmaker) in the same auction.

He occasionally used his first initial but never used the name John.

Modern write-ups do often refer to him as "John Joseph Henry," though he himself never did. He was always Joseph Henry or J. Joseph Henry or J. J. Henry.
