Source for left hand flint kit.
« on: January 20, 2025, 06:38:31 AM »
I’m looking ahead to my next build after I finish my 1803 Harpers Ferry rifle.  My son is left handed, and I’d prefer he not shoot a right handed flint left handed.  He’s a hunter so something in .54 cal and appropriate for the fur trade.  Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Charley

I don't know that any of those mentioned offer left handed kits.  I know that Pecatonica does.

I’ll check with them, they don’t list left hand on their web page.

Thanks

last time I looked, Pecatonica did still offer left hand, but only on some stocks.  You have to look at each profile separately to see it.

I did get a Southern Mountain style stock in left hand along with a number of other parts , but that was nearly 15 years ago.  Many things changed with da rona.

Jim Chambers has Isacc Haines in LH with a C weight barrel.
Dunlap has a LH Isacc Haines in LH with a C weight barrel.
Pecontica has several LH choices. Look in the faqs section and you will see listed which kits are LH,

TOTW used to have several including a Isacc Haines with a B weight barrel. Sadly they seem to have dropped all of them now.

We lefthanders are not well supported as evidenced by some major suppliers only offering one LH model or none at all such as Kibler.

Instead of looking at a kit I will be fitting a B weight 50 caliber rice to my Isacc Haines with a 40 caliber Rice barrel. This is my cheapest way out to get what I need.

Also check cabin creek.  I believe they have one lefty.  It's either a virginia or a York county.  Great quality kits.

There are very few options for left-handers, and it looks like there will be fewer offerings in the future.
I'd recommend you building from scratch. It's not that big a leap from kit guns if you buy a blank with the barrel inlet. The choice of left-handed locks is the most limiting factor, but chamber's left-handed gunmakers lock can solve some issues.

I'm left-handed and build all my guns from scratch.

Best regards

Do you have a website or facebook link to the M&G shop? I'd like to see what he has. Even an email address would  be helpful.

Chambers did an English sporting rifle kit and didn't do the lock inletting so I could buy an L&R left hand round faced lock and put it in instead of their usual RH option.
