WTB: Don Stith Hawken Squirrel rifle parts/kit $1500
« on: January 21, 2025, 04:49:50 AM »
I’m planning a Hawken Sporting rifle aka squirrel rifle build and I am in need of hardware, specifically a triggerguard. I’d like to buy one of Don Stith’s triggerguards, or a complete kit, if anyone has one of these they’re not going to get around to. Triggerguard $50, full kit $1,500+.
Thanks
-Steve

You might try to contact Bob Browner in St Louis.  Bob got a lot of Don's things but he is hard to reach.

Thanks, and yes I actually spoke with Bob before posting this WTB. He has all his Stith parts spoken for in customer projects, but is going to keep an ear open as well. I'll be out at the Hawken Classic in May and might find something there too.
Thanks again for the suggestion.

Did Bob get you the plans and the instructions/options?  Don wrote up notes on where to get some of the parts as well, he didn't supply everything in his kit.  His website was hijacked by a GoDaddy troll just as soon as the DNS was avail so the info there is just noise, Mark was going to manage it but the trolls are just too fast [ basically Mark took rimfire and Bob took ML ].   If Bob doesn't want to do the stock/lock/brl, I'd get Mark to rough one for you, he has copies of all of Don's patterns too.  If you're going full stock seems Don always did a swamped Rice.  The last one I saw him build was a half stock with a 1-1/8 x 1 - 31in barrel, no clue who made it, big bore [ not sure cal ] and short.  Almost everything I ever saw sitting in his shop was a Rice, I know he had J.GOODOIEN on his site, but I never saw one.  Mark can bed the brl too if he cuts the stock.

May I ask what is included in that full kit?

Don had made castings off an original rifle for the trigger guard and buttplate, and supplied these with his sporting rifle kits too. He showed these in the pictures of his kits, but PMA001 said his website was very out of date when he passed away. The other parts are fairly generic and the stock is no problem for me to make, but I'd sure like to find his castings!
