Who made rifles with Cache Valley Guns, LTD???

Hello,

I just purchased a nice Hawken from a member here.  On the top of the barrel flat is marked, Cache Valley Guns, LTD.  # 16.

Do you have any knowledge of this company or who built it?

Where IS  Cache Valley? Utah? Wyoming? Not a lot to go on but it might offer a clue.

I came within a cat's whisker of buying that rifle although I didn't need it.  What does need have anything to do with it?  That is a very nice rifle.

Cache Valley Arms was  a group of three individuals who created the stock pattern and parts group to build thirty odd Hawken rifles. They were assembled in Albany Oregon and sold out a gun shop in Salem Oregon. To the best of my knowledge ,not all of the parts were assembled.

I read where Adolf Hitler got some of his ideas by reading about America'a native peoples and the white man.I think it was in William Shirer's "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich". It's a great read for anyone who wants to know about post 1900 history.Think this line came from Johnny Cash. If it's a .50, then a .495" or .490" ball. Same patch thicknes I noted in the PM.

Hello Ron,  Thank you for this information. I have sent you a PM with a few more questions.

I checked with the gun shop ran by Suzzie and her late husband.  The gentleman I spoke to said that she has no recollection of that company nor did anyone else working there.  No records of it.

I’m still asking for more information if anyone else can add anything here.

I have a vague memory of reading a review or writeup of some kind on the Cache Valley rifles.  For some reason I'm thinking it may have been something written by Mike Nesbitt; you might try contacting him care of Muzzleloader magazine.  I think he was a member here in the past but am not sure of his current status.

So far, I’ve followed up every tip or lead pointed out in this thread but still have not found anything about the guys Ron Scott referred to. I’ve tried to message Ron but I’ve not gotten any response but I was hoping he could expound on his comments about the group of people that made up this company or any other information.  Thank you in advance.

Mike Nesbit didn’t recall them. 

The gun shops mentioned, nobody knows about them.

Where did this advertisement come from?  Muzzleblasts?  Year and issue??

I happened to run into it looking at an issue of Muzzle Blasts January 1979 and remembered your post as I almost bought that rifle myself as is it looked of very good quality.  You can download them and look at them on the NMLRA website.  You might start in January of 1979 and go backwards until you find when they were first advertised.  They are of a PDF type download so if you hit "Control F" and type in "Cache Valley" the proper page will appear.
