I'm envious...that really puts the "B" in Bucks. Is the same thumbnail design that's on the trigger guard also on the buttplate tang?

The carving is very similar to the Weiker rifle I have. But my rifle isn't signed either, but is a solid attribution. The problem with Bucks rifles is that they are mostly, with a few exceptions, very similar. Little details in the carving or engraving is what it takes sometimes.

WKenvinD - if you have a copy of the updated RCA volume with color photos, there are some color shots of RCA 62 in there. Some of the photos aren't great (I took them and let's just say I did the best I could) but if you have any detail shots you might like to see for comparative purposes, just holler!

Yes I have the revised RCA and comparing mine to #62 the sideplate, lock, trigger and triggerguard are very similar as well as the visible carving.
I've found some other attributed Weiker fowlers/ rifles on auction sites that also share carving and hardware details.
I originally thought this was a Lehigh because I wanted it to be one but now comparing it to other Bucks I see what I was missing.

Is there any carving on the cheek side? Any pics?
From the carving, your rifle is comparing favorably with mine, and with pictures of a signed Weiker as well.

John, No carving cheek side and no cheek piece just the lock and side plate tail carving.
I havn't pulled the barrel to see if there are any marks.
I have pulled the lock and it and it's inlet are clean and without any visible marks.

So you have one of the few that was made as a fowler, at least from what I've seen. Most all were made smooth bore, but rifle stocked. Strange guns from that area. Beautiful, I think, but different.
One of the highlights of my collecting, and thanks to the owner was being able to hold and fondle the A Verner/Gunsmith rifle!

Back in the time, there actually were smooth rifles in the order forms, re-printed in the Firearms of the American West books.
