Different powders

I have several cans of power of the same granulation from different makers. I’m going to mix them all together then re-label the cans “3F mix”. This way I won’t worry that when I switch cans the point of aim will be off.

Makes sense. I did the same thing with some cans of 1f and 2f to make some shotgun powder.

Should work fine as long as they are the same granulation (all 3F for example). I know Justin is smart enough when making his shotgun powder by mixing 2 different granulations to label it well, but probably something I wouldn't do. But then I am old and stuck in my ways. No offense to Justin.

When reading this forum it seems like a lot of shooters use 3f for all cal. rifles so as far as safety goes a mix of 2 & 3f should be ok safety wise.

Safety won't be an issue but you will get varying muzzle velocities. I wouldn't mix anything with Swiss. All that's going to do is degrade the Swiss. Mixing Goex with anything will improve the Goex.

Quite a lot of records at Friendship and the Western National shoots have been set with Dupont which became Goex as well as Goex.
One of my late friends used Elephant powder. He was a great shooter and was hard to beat. I don't remember all the powders that Larry Pletcher used in an article in Muzzleblasts. But what stuck in my mind at the time was that Goex 2f had a much better SD than Swiss 2f in the loads he was experimenting with.

I have been a handloader since I was a kid, started around 1967, in that arena you do not mix powders! when I got into BP in the 80s  I was surprised that you could mix powders. a very versatile sport,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

BP likes BP. Smokeless powders do not like other powders. Just like drinks. Beer likes all beer, but beer doesn't like tequila, Scotch, Rye or Burbon.

Dang, you’re right!  But it would be a first!
