Looking for a 24g or possibly something smaller, so i’m testing the waters to see whats out there.
Ive got a smooth bore 58 hawken style gun that got me really liking the 24g load itself, problem is the gun is a bit of a bulky, heavy, pig overall, and the only way i can get a decent pattern is fairly extravagant paper cartridges I tediously make by hand.
Those factors make it less enjoyable overall and completely kill any desire to lug it around quail hunting, which is mostly what I'm looking for its potential upgrade to do.
As far as specifics i’m fairly open ended. I’d lean towards flint with a fast reputable lock…but percussion also welcome. Obviously not too heavy, anything more on the lighter handier side would be ideal as it will likely be lugged around for miles on end so every pound adds up after a long day.
Anything that patterns well and had a proven load worked up to the front of the line. Even jug choked maybe? Shots for quail out here are pretty long overall so a 24 is going to need to stay fairly tight.
I think that about covers it. If you have anything you think might fit the bill please shoot me a photo or two with an asking price, thanks!
