You might want to see if you can see a copy of George Shumway's _Rifles of Colonial America_, vol 1.  Years before I bought one, I was able to borrow one through interlibrary loan. Was able to keep it for two weeks--long enough to make good use of a copy machine.

NOTE ADDED: There are a few in vol. 2, as well.

Here’s one Okabow made based on an early Schroyer. https://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=31833.0

This patch box was based upon one in the Rifles of Colonial America (can’t remember which one) and with the same timeframe you have in mind.

Do a Google search, type in muzzleloader patchbox and hit images, you'll find all kinds of stuff

RCA2 #85 is engraved and dated on the box 1776, so you can't get much more simple 2-pc, early War era and documented than that.  Very simple type of box to make and install and probably could date anywhere to the 1770s at least.  The Bowers rifle box is similarly made with a scratched date of sometime in the 1770s iirc off the top of my head, the brass barrel rifle likewise - simple 2-pc box with scratched early 1770s date.
