bobinthe woods, here's hoping that the snow will get out of there and you will get a chance at April's turkey. Thanks.

I got out late yesterday as well.  Bob Hill colonial Southern flintlock with GM barrel and Chambers/Evrard lock.  72 grains 2f Goex, .490 cast roundball (it does not like swaged for some reason), .015 The-Minute-Men canvas patching, Hoppes BP Lube and Cleaner, 4f Swiss in the pan. Normally I like a tighter patch/ball combo, but this one shoots great with this combo.  I think it is the magic of the The-Minute-Men canvas patching.  The very high humidity yesterday caused an audibly slower ignition, but it was at least consistent and I could hold it well enough.

 - Shot sitting and rifle hand held
 - 25 yards, five shots
 - Note this group is not great if translated to 50 yards, but I think it got the job done staying inside the head.  I can measure this group if needed.

I think some chunk-gun or benchrest ace willl beat the snot out of this group.
Go for it guys.
God Bless,   Marc

Good shooting Marc!  Looks like a rough one to beat, maybe a tighter group might do it?

Tony

"Hard to make such small corrections offhand."

Alacran, you can say that again.  Offhand is always a challenge, and one I practice continually with handguns.  You are a serious offhand shot sir.

Tony, that group is not that small, and I am sure someone will beat it off the bench.  I just got lucky with five in the head and decided to "stop while I was ahead".  I wish I was better at bench shooting muzzleloaders.  I find sitting handheld to give me better results.  The chunk gun aces can shoot some amazingly small groups.

Come on gents, I want to be beaten soundly in this month's match.   Take a snow shovel and get out on the range.

Good morning, all. I am Bill, and I am new to the form. I would like to be part of the postal matches. How would I be able to go about doing that? I have had a muzzleloader for a while, nothing fancy just a standard percussion 50 CAL CVA Hawken. I love muzzleloaders, shooting with them, and hunting with them. I live here in Wyoming. Thanks, Bill

Print the target, shoot it by the rules that month, send it in. Winner picks target for the next month. It is a good reason to not let a month go by without shooting.

Very nice day here today, though a 25-30 MPH wind from behind.

First 2 targets sitting gun hand held 25 yards, Kibler SMR .36 40 gr FFFg, .020 patch lubed with water + dish soap, .350 RB. Scores 15 and 20 respectively. Did not try for the eye here, just the body.

These next 2 I did on sand bag rest, same load, tried 2 or 3 for eye, then moved down to body. Both score 20 + 5 for the eye

These are my targets for score.

Then for fun I tried one with RB from the fowler, 70 gr FFg, .010 neatsfoot lubed patch, .610 RB, not submitted for score, rested on sand bag.

Lastly, also not for score, I did a load with 70 gr FFg, nitro card, 1.5 oz 7.5/8 reclaimed shot mix, over shot card, since in MN you cannot use a rifle to shoot turkeys.

Would have used #5 shot, but forgot to take it to the range.

foresterdj,
Good shooting! Any of those targets would mean turkey for supper! I'm with you on #5 shot. I shot a tom last Saturday with a load of 5's at about 25 yards and he dropped like he had been pole axed. The 5's gave excellent penetration.

Printed multiple targets...got to shoot one.  Snow, rain ice pellets tornado force winds Yesterday went from Plus 29 deg C to minus 3   Got to finally shoot this target one hour ago  :(   Not my best, but it was fun and helped to ramp down my frustration after our election  ;D

25 yards, off hand   .50 cal flint  70 gr FFg .495 ball .018 patch

Well I'll be a turkey's uncle.  I sure did not think that group would win.  Many thanks for the kind words.  I posted May's target on a new thread.   God Bless,   Marc
