Opening morning '25 turkey
« on: April 26, 2025, 09:37:52 PM »

Week late posting, but another great opening morning in Maryland.  Put him to roost night before, worked him for an hour and a half, had hens and Jake's in range almost all morning.  Finally got the 30 yard shot and he barely flapped when the smoke cleard.  20ga Armstrong style fowler I built a few years ago, Colerain turkey choke bbl, 90gr FF, 1 3/4oz #5 shot. 10.5" beard, 1 3/8" spurs.

Sure it. Are they still good eating that size?

I make mine into breakfast sausage. That way all the meat is utilized and It provides many meals. I mix about 2# bacon with the cubed turkey meat, along with the heart and liver. I like cajun seasoning, but regular breakfast sausage spice is good also.

Osprey, nice horn, nice gun, nice bird! 👍

Reminds me I need to get in gear and build my Colerain turkey choke gun one of these days.
