Very nice interview. Sure would be nice to go back in time to around 1750 to 1820 and visit the stockers, lock filers, metal worker and metal/woodfinishers. To see them work and the tools and techniques they use would be priceless. Thanks for posting,
Cheers Richard

They are really spot-on concerning English gun fit.
The .69 csl. Sporting Rifle Taylor built me in '86 fits this criteria to a tee.
The gun fits so well, that you can eyeball the centre spot on an 8" round plate at 50 yards, snap the rifle to your shoulder, pulling the trigger as the butt fits into your shoulder pocket and hit the plate, without ever looking through the sights as they are already centered on the plate.
That is a gun that fits. The Jaeger Taylor built is similar, but not quite.
The 1853 era Joseph Lang 16 bore Taylor has, fits the same as my 14 bore rifle.
It is difficult to describe just how perfectly they fit.

I listened to the podcast last week. Sure wish I had a builder closer to my area to learn from! An interesting side note: I'm a physician and much of the teaching we do in clinicals is very much like an apprenticeship. They won't remind everything I ever said to them fondly, but they will very likely remember the important points. Don't know much about English arms but this summer I'm headed to Scotland and hope to see some original pieces there.
