Adjustable Peep Sight
« on: May 05, 2025, 06:50:05 AM »
I just finished making an adjustable peep sight. It has plenty of windage and elevation. There are no sights commercially available for this type of rifle so making from scratch is the only option. I was working well beyond my skill level on this one! I kept at it and it turned out pretty good. Sure did take a long time though. I had a few problems with it but nothing that I couldn't work through. Hopefully this inspires a few of you to try something that you don't think you can do. I have never done one of these before and did not really know how to do it. I managed to figure it out. If I can do it, so can anyone else. The whole process of making this is on video and will be posted on the Rumble with links in the Schuetzen Rifle Build. It's posted on Patreon already if someone wants to watch it.

Looks like you did spend some time with it.

Have you thought about perhaps having some screws you can turn with your fingers instead of a screwdriver?   Wind can change quite a bit quickly.

That was my original idea. Problem is that it would just get too bulky. Most of the originals had screws with a square nut as the head. You would need a tiny wrench to turn them. I figured screw heads would be the best way to keep it historically correct and usable.

That's a good looking sight and the conventional slotted screws makes it more or less tamper resistant---maybe.

The screw if it were an 8x40 with a calibrated head and witness point on the sight base would be a dandy,
40 threads per inch is a known .025 like a "C"clamp micrometer.

Bill.
It is a bit "off the wall" but once on this forum I was asked what was wrong with an 8x32 or 10x32 for a peep sight stem and my answer was and still is that 40 threads is the standard for accurate measurement and in common use in the USA,Thank you for the comment.
