"Join, or Die." a Powder Horn

This horn recently sold but I thought I would share it with the members here for a peak. It is a rather long and narrow horn (14.5"), which lent itself well to the chosen motif I used.
The dismembered snake image was originally printed by Benjamin Franklin for his newspaper (The Pennsylvania Gazette) in 1754, and became widely circulated in other news papers. "Join, or Die." referred the the need for the colonies to stay united in the face of French encroachments into the Ohio Valley. (Delaware was not included because it was a part of Pennsylvania at the time, and it is thought that Georgia was omitted from the cartoon because the colony was too remote to really make much difference). The embers were being stirred up leading to the French and Indian war.
On the off-side, I created an image that reflects the temperament of the time; a frightening British Grenadier, in the form of the Grim Reaper, standing/trampling on the French Fleur-de-lis. The Motto above him, "Doubt Ye Not" is my own contrivance, a warning against doubting the power of the British Army.
