Old investarms bridger hawken
« on: May 16, 2025, 02:50:08 AM »
Had this thing sitting around for years. Never was a big fan of hawkens or really halfstocks in general but decided to try and pretty her up a little. So first tore it down and stripped that old plasticy coating off and got her in the first coat of chambers traditional oil stock finish. Already feels better in the hand and looks alot better to me anyway. Next I'm going to clean up the brass and blacken it to put some age on it, guess I'm just not a fan of shiney lol. After that plan on rust blueing the barrel and see how it all looks together. Wish me luck.

I Started exactly with the same Kit and  planed also to reuse it as a kind of test object to try new Oils and stains..

I did something similar with my old T\C kit rifle. I removed the True-oil coats I applied way back when with files and sandpaper, reshaped the stock, and then applied several coats of Chambers finish.

Here's a pic after shaping, before Chambers, and with the phony T\C lock heat treat.

How did you strip the old coating?

Citristrip and a scraper.
