Long Island, NY outdoor ranges
« on: May 22, 2025, 06:58:49 PM »
Have my first Flintlock and need to try it out!
I'm in Huntington, Long Island, NY.  There are some outdoor ranges further out east, I know.

Anyone on the forum in my area doing black powder shooting?
There are some Civil War reenactors on Long Island and was invited once to a private range, but lost track of where.
I would possibly join a private range depending on amount, etc..

Thanks in advance!

All ranges here are private, requiring membership or day-care purchase to shoot at them. Perhaps you are referring to single ownership ranges on personal property, such as big Wayne's diggins.

i guess I should have phrased my post as what outdoor range would someone recommend.
I go to the South Shore Shooting range every so often, but they're indoors, not black powder friendly.
Not familiar with "big Wayne diggins".

There are public ranges in various parts of the U.S. usually run by state Departments of National Resources as well as various private/club owned ranges and of course guys with their own ranges set up on private land. I am not personally familiar with any of the ranges in New York, so I can't speak to any recommendations there. This website shows multiple ranges on Long Island that you could look into:

Try and befriend some locals with private land that shoot.....Even here in Maryland with all of its oppression against gun owners, some rural Counties such as mine won't have you arrested for discharging a firearm, so long as you have a safe backstop.......b
