LOTT lock on NS trade gun..
« on: June 03, 2025, 06:16:20 PM »
I've got an earlier Northstar trade gun with the stamp inside the lock. The sear spring had broken at one point and been replaced by a crude and weak homemade one. I've tried track, and VTI and Dixie for a replacement spring and nothing ends up fitting .. any chance someone can't point me in the right direction?

Unlikely, unfortunately. I hope I’m wrong. But sear springs are the easiest to make if you need one made. You could probably send that lock out and somebody could make one that would work pretty quickly. Of course with shipping and labor it all adds up.

Check with Upper Missouri Trading Co
http://uppermotradingco.com/More_Parts2023.html
They have a trade gun lock kit that is very similar to the Lott lock. Might sell a sear spring separately.

OR

Contact Chris Hirsch @ texasguntrade.com. Email: cshirsch@windstream.net
He might be able to fix you up

OR

Give making one a try. They’re not hard to make.

Good luck.

I don't know who sells them, but there are replacement sear springs available with elongated tabs that fit into the slot.  You shorten the tab to locate the spring in the proper position.  There are probably guys who have one and don't know it because they never looked closely.

I think Davis made that lock for Track. You might try the Log Cabin Shop as the purchased Davis. If that doesn't work, I would send to Brad Emig at Cabin Creek Muzzleloading and he can make one. Brad does outstanding work.

Springs from Pedersoli's Brown Bess may fit.  Some other parts will work, not sure about springs.
