How much of the ramrod does everyone leave exposed?

1/4 of the rod? 1/3?

Are you asking about how much of the ramrod is visible below the ramrod groove? More than half.

If you mean, I believe you do, how much is exposed in a view from the side, I like about 55-60 percent of the ramrod and about 55percent of the barrel. Makes for a nice slim fore stock.

I rough cut to half exposure then clean up from there. But my rough cut is pretty close.

Sorry for the lack of clarification.  Yes, what I meant was how much of the ram rod remains exposed. I believe that around 3/4 of the diameter should be showing.

Hi,
There is no hard rule.  Leave enough exposed to give you a nice slim forestock but enough wood to solidly hold the pipes and ramrod.  If you were building a 17th century musket or a matchlock most of the ramrod would be covered.
