Offering for a friend. This is a 45 cal straight barrel. Barrel length is 42 inches, overall length is 58 inches. LOP is 13.5. Douglas barrel. Lock inside says PETE ALLEN and has a number 52 also. Have no idea about the triggers (single) but everything seems to function OK. It appears to have been made by a builder that was not really good at inletting although the lock mortis fit is good other areas are not so good with noticeable gaps between the wood and metal. The flash hole is not centered at the pan being slightly forward although it fires OK. I actually have shot this rifle some years ago. There is some crude drummel tool engraving on the toe plate. It's a heavy gun at 10.2 pounds. So far things don't sound so great, right? BUT the wood of this stock is exceptional. It has a red color as if it has a coat of maple stain. The finish is dull but the grain is a killer. I think maybe it's called "quilt" or "quilted" maple. Sort of a burl character throughout.
A good builder could take this rifle and rework the flawed inletting by replacing components that would cover the old inletting. The rear sight has been replaced and moved forward with brass filled in the original dovetail. Tang inletting might be corrected by filling it in and "do over" Barrel is nicely browned and the bore looks excellent. A few parts and some labor would turn this rifle into a knock out!
I'll connect interested buyers to the seller. He's a solid guy I have known for around 20 years.
Photos. Not going to post any until action is taken that restores adding photos however if you are interested PM me with your email address.
He's looking for $1200 plus shipping. Personally, I doubt one could find a blank like this for less that $600. I have read the Allen locks are very good although no longer made.
