English sportingrifle finished
« on: June 27, 2025, 07:58:15 PM »
 Hello

I am now working on an English sporting rifle
The hole for the lock is very large
It is always looking for examples because I have never seen or felt this in real life.
If I have made something I see a nicer example so it will be mix or miss.
We are spoiled with posting the photos, fortunately it works as usual again
Thanks for that.

Hello,

Step by step.
Drilling and filing the buttplate, the trigger guard.
The accelerator took a lot of thinking; I found one example.

Hello,

I always start with the barrel, then the lock, then the trigger.
Now I enjoyed making the buttplate, then the paths box,
then the trigger. Now the lock goes against the trigger, and the tang bold
I'm not going to modify the lock, which I think is a pity
The problem is that I'm making it from photos.
It's a pity of wood; it's a beautiful piece.
If I solve it, I'll have to glue in a piece of wood.
But I don't want to modify it; it doesn't feel right. I want to move forward with making things
not take a step back.
But now I know exactly how it works,
This time it's bad luck and I have to start over. I'll come back with this.
I'm writing this because it's better than just modifying.
This only takes time, but it's a good lesson.

Greetings, Adrie

Adrie,
I was enjoying your photos very much and was looking forward to seeing this piece completed. I have never built a miniature and am very fascinated with your work.

I'm sorry to hear that you encountered a difficult problem.
Could you glue in some wood and continue, so as to work out all the problems? That might help you overcome the difficulties.

Thank you for showing us the process in your builds.

Thanks Whetrock

I'm going to make tang longer  so the bolt can be angled more.
That will save me 1 mm.

Conclusion:

In hindsight, I could have made the barrel a bit thicker at the breech plug.
I made the breech plug longer.
The lock was slightly slanted, so I glued in a piece of wood and filed down the trigger and made it slightly slanted.
The lock isn't flush with the wood, but I'll continue.

I also have to mention how amazing your English sporting rifle is.  Your miniatures are always fascinating and spectacular!

Adrie, I've been watching your work over the years, and believe you can create your masterpieces almost out of thin air.  Your workmanship and attention to detail are both phenomenal.
This looks much like a poacher's gun, able to be slid down inside your pants leg for concealment.
Keep us posted, please.

Thanks for the kind words.

I found an example in the Smartdog thread
for attaching the front of the lock.

Cool video, however, not 25 caliber. 25 bore, though.
Beautiful guns.
Adrie, you did an absolutely splendid job on your build.
