Maple source
« on: July 09, 2025, 04:10:06 AM »
I need a source for some highly curl red maple. Just some half inch 4x4 pieces for pistol grips for a special project. I’ve built a few rifles from kits and want to do the traditional finish on these.
If this request is out of bounds, I apologize.

Thanks

Harrisons and Dunlap also are great sources for smaller blocks of very curly maple.  I always keep an eye out for really fine, tight curl maple as I have friends that make beautiful knives.  I like fat curl on a rifle, but fat curl isn't impressive on something small like handgun stocks.  Really super tight curl scales well to smaller projects.  I have had success with calling Dunlap directly and describing just this.  Also, I usually look under tables at CLA or Knoxville for the same, and often find nice blocks inexpensively.  God Bless,  Marc

It seems they only do the pressurized wood.
