I built a 12.5" LOP rifle for a fella who wanted one for his kids to grow up using.

He supplied the 36" 40 caliber Rice barrel and Kibler Late Ketland style lock

I used a piece of curly soft maple, Goering butt plate and guard I got at Kempton. Side plate I made from sheet brass..
The thimbles, and nose cap, rear sight are TOTW.  Front sight, trigger and trigger plate are from A Martin.

He said to build it as I pleased. So here it is. I looked at a J Graeff rifle for some of the attributes like the carving.

This is the 2nd plank build for me and 2nd gun I carved.  Lots to learn.

Fine looking rifle.I was making an Eastern style half stock caplock for a grandson about 20 years ago and my shop was broken into and it was taken out of the vise.I still have the semi finished lock,a scaled down "4 pin" Brazier style.Bill Large 32 caliber with scaled down English style breech to match the lock..I know who did this but can't prove it and one of them was from a family I helped with groceries until they got food stamps.No good deed goes unpunished >:( >:( That Chambers Late Ketland lock is probably my favorite to make a custom mechanism for and I did several from parts I bought from them.What is the word on Barbie now?

Beautiful rifle !!  Having built two sub-scale rifles, I can say that, to me anyway, they are even more fun to build than the full scale ones... and that they will be used by someone other than us "old timers" makes me feel even better about them.  I try not to, but I often get depressed looking at all the pictures of the participants at shows like the CLA and others.  No one in the pictures looks to be under 60 years old (and most look substantially older than that !)  The fabrication of smaller rifles for use by youngsters does my heart good. :) ;)

I am 35 and shoot a lot and my kids are taking interest. Also a # of my friends. The cost seems to be the barrier of entry for most of my friends.
I do what I can to get young people shooting. I built a smaller gun than this one for my kids, and other children have shot it too.

It looks great.  Reminds me of several I have built, and one in particular for one of my grandsons.
One would think they are easier being smaller, but it was not for me.
