weak frizzen spring - Durs Egg
« on: August 03, 2025, 10:20:27 PM »
Hi,

someone an idea how to get a weak frizzen spring strong again or better strong in general... I guess it was always to weak.
The frizzen opens very easy with not much resistance (compared to other locks). Can I bend it a bit?

Send the lock to Brad Emig at Cabin Creek.

He's not inexpensive, but he will go over the entire lock and correct any problems and tune it.

If it's a "modern" made lock, you can purchase replacement springs for most at TOTW and other flintlock parts suppliers.

Second Martin S.  Also Cody Yoho from western PA can do this.  He tuned my durs egg and it is unbelievably smooth.  He's on Facebook and contributes in the Traditional American Craftsman.  He is one Chambers lock guys.

I assume this is an L & R lock. Call them, tell them your problem. More than likely, they will ask you to send them the lock. They will take care of the problem and send it back to you. You will only be out the shipping to them.
I have had issues with L & R locks, they always fix them and I get them back within a week.
