Here is one on Gunbroker. Sometimes those lower end guns sold at Rock Island get turned around later on other web sites... so "just in case" it's the one you seek...  https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1116304193

Shelby,
It's in pretty good shape but someone must know more than me about Hayden. $1500 starting could buy T least 2 in similar condition

I am seeking the person that purchased a J Hayden rifle from ME on this forum. He arranged to have it rebored and rifled it  I sent it to the barrel smith with instructions to send it to the buyer, only they sent it back to ME! I have deleted all messages, and I no longer have the buyers address. SOOOO, I went ahead and paid for the barrel work since it was in my name and now I am looking for the owner!,,,LK

Sorry for the hassle you are faced with.

Is the Am Longrifles site some how archived?  Maybe there is access to the “Way Back Machine” where nothing really ever goes away on the net?  Maybe the original sale thread can be recovered to find who you sold the rifle to. Surely the Mods here could rule this in or out.

Good luck to you. You are obviously doing your very best to rectify the situation!

Hi Lynn,

Good thoughts, but we don't have a  “Way Back Machine”.  Wish we did.

To save server storage space, we encourage members to delete their classified ads once the transaction has been completed.  And periodically the Moderators delete older ads that are obviously completed.  Currently the oldest active ad is from July 3.

Once any post (not just classified ads) on ALR is deleted, it's gone.  Sorry we couldn't help.

If it was the buyer who worked out the arrangement to have the rifle barrel rebored, wouldn't the shop that did the barrel work have the buyer's name and perhaps other information on him? Hard to believe they would do the barrel work without keeping records of who ordered the work. If you can get a name from them and post it here, it might be recognized by readers.

Thanks Ron for the clear explanation of the why the site doesn't archive.

There are a bunch of "Johnny Cheek" guys on Facebook.  If you or someone you know has Facebook you might be able to figure out which one is the Real Johnny Cheek.

I searched ALR members for "Cheek" and "Cheak" and I got one hit.  It was Terry Cheek, but his last time to logon was in November 2024, so he's probably not your guy.  Sorry.

Maybe you can go into post no. 1 you made, change the subject line to include his name?

I had a guy that bought an antique 1890s wood camera from me once, paying several hundred cash.  It was a large 8x10 on a stand.  He didn't have a way to get it back and didn't want it shipped, said he'd come to my town again in a few weeks and pick it up.  I didn't get his email or number, he got mine.  Weeks became months, fall turned to winter, I never heard back.  A year or two later I finally heard from him, he had gone through some difficulties, but would be down soon to get it.  Again, 2-3 years went by.  Finally one day I was able to get it to him.   Strange.
