I cut the slot with a mortising chisel, but yeah, a milling machine would be cool to have for lots of things--like never again using a file to taper or swamp barrels!

Keith,
I did something similar to what Davec2 posted on a restoration, except I cut the mortise by hand. Basically all the way from the trigger plate to tang. Very strong!!
