tom Nixon/Bob Rollor .45 Hawken makes meat
« on: October 23, 2025, 09:49:21 PM »
stepped back a couple centuries in time this morning...as you all know muzzleloading is my favorite type of hunting. took the Tom Nixon built .45 Hawken with Bob Roller lock and triggers with me today it is such a fine rifle.  i was not in the woods 15 minutes leaned against a tree and could hear a deer coming. i heard a buck grunting and the had a doe at 25 yards right in front of me looking over her shoulder. she stayed that way for what seemed like and hour but i'm sure was only a minute or 2.  everyone likes to kill a buck but i like meat in the freezer.  put the front blade low neck het the set trigger touched her off BOOOOM through the smoke i could see she folded up instantly and did not twitch God i love this season! .45 cal Hawken 80 grains fff goex, bear greased .018 patch and a .445 Hornady round ball passed straight through neck and dropped instantly.  my buddy Eric shortly after killed a 4 point it was a good morning....

Good meat there. Fine looking rifle

Congratulations!  I very happy for you.

I went down to my place to check my deer cameras a few days ago, and I have 3000 pictures of pigs.   :-[

Awesome hunt! Glad that it all came together for you. I’d take a doe over a buck any day, you can’t eat antlers.

Congratulations.  She looks like she was healthy and has been eating good. Maybe white oak acorns.

Buck steaks, cream corn and fried taters with onion. Our nightly dinner at our high mountain elk camp (6,000 ft). That doe will be as good of eating as there is. Congratulations and thank you for the post.
