Marty’s molds
« on: November 03, 2025, 11:57:30 PM »
Three weeks ago I was in search of a .420 round ball mold. I ordered a gang mold from Marty’s molds. The mold arrived today. 16 cavities. I should be able to cast plenty of balls for next years youth field day, if all goes well. I’m presuming the leisurely delivery time is due to manufacturing the mold as ordered. Understandably to keep inventory at minimum. I’ll do some casting tonight or tomorrow. BJH

I bought one of his gang molds a while back, very happy with it, would buy another one without hesitation if I ever needed it.

I had a good casting session today with the Marty’s mold. Discovered it needs to be screaming hot to work well, something around 400 degrees plus. Plus the lead needs to be hotter than I normally cast at. Gloves are a must as the bolts that hold the wood handles on get hot enough to be uncomfortable gloves or not. The balls cast were a bit bigger than speck due to the hard $#@*
Alloy was utilizing. They’ll work fine. 16 balls per cast fills a peanut butter jar pretty quick. I’m sure they’re not exactly match grade. But I’m sure they will bust clay birds at 15 yards for the kids at youth field day.
