James, as always outstanding work.

Can you share with us how you do your embossing?

Thanks

Fleener, embossing is done by raising the leather from the rear, filling the cavity with leather shavings, cork, hide glue and then sculpting from the front. This is based on a 16th century statue in the Louvre

So was the figure sculpted from scratch, or did you have a form of some sort to get the close to finished shape and size?

Thanks

Sorry, I forgot to add I sketch an outline on the front first and then tool that outline in. When I raise from the back, I use small ball shaped tools to raise in heights proportionally appropriate within that outline.

Stunning work all around! You've got a lot of different details that really add to the overall aesthetic. That looks far too high class for most of us "provincials."  ;D

The leather with the goddess on is that cow?   Did you put that finish/texture on it?

Thanks

James,

I can’t stop looking at not only the artistic talent, but the meticulous craftsmanship of that entire bag. Absolutely, wonderful work.
I only wish!

Thank you all.
Snapper, yes it is cow. The texture is tooled and then finished to make the subject stand out even further.

Well to my mind wherever Acer’s (Tom Curran) jaeger hangs out these days this bag needs to be hanging with it.

I had thought the same thing. I don't mean to highjack this thread, but if anyone wants to see what we are talking about, there's a photo of Tom's inlay on his old website.
