Elk Ivory inlays?
« on: January 14, 2026, 08:30:22 PM »
Has anyone done this?  I'm asking as I have the "Elk Ivories" (teeth) that a very good friend of mine gave me about a year before he passed.

He was just a great guy and a very avid hunter.

I don’t know if this is similar to what you’re asking, but I shaped and inlet an old cow bone on a previous build… epoxy in place.

Are talking about just inlaying the teeth as they are shaped, or about cutting them so as to make some other shape from the tooth?

Here's a pic of the teeth. I could shape them better but likely they would need an epoxy to embed them. I just didn't know if anyone has done this and what kind of placement I could do.

I could take them to a jeweler and have a Bezel placed around them prior to embedding them in the stock.

This is a crude cut\paste photo of placing the elk ivories where a "regular" inlay would go. The position of the teeth would be placed better.

You may think about drilling holes toward the top of them, add a couple trade beads, string them on a piece of artificial sinew, make a short loop and tie them onto the back of your trigger guard. Just my two cents thrown out there.
