Isaac Haines

I am about to start building an Isaac Haines rifle. Would it be out of place to put on a brass nose cap and forearm inlays? I would like to make it as period correct as possible. Any advice would be greately appreciated.

I'm not totally sure of what you mean.

All of the existing Haines rifles (as far as I know) have brass nose caps.  I don't recall seeing any with forearm inlays, but unless you're trying to recreate and existing one, go for it.

I would think a brass nose cap would be the most appropriate.  I don't think he did alot of inlays.  A star on the cheek piece or a thumb piece maybe.

I'm sure the more learned members can provide insight.

Hi ya gdk!  Welcome to ALR.  You are in the right place.

While today's parts suppliers offer I. Haines furniture in iron (steel), the originals would have been mounted with brass furniture.  I just checked RCA II and the 4 I. Haines guns (2 attributed, 2 signed), all are brass mounted and do not have any forestock, checkpiece or thumb piece inlays.  

But as Dane says, do what makes you happy.  BTW.... my I. Haines has iron furniture... wink.

If you go by photos of a original, I don't know how you could be more PC, other than have an original one in hand.  That being said, all of the photos I have seen of original  I. Haines had brass trim (including nosecaps) and none had inlays on the forestock.
