I have a Joe Schell .32 southern style that is just about perfect. I will post some pictures when I get back in town. Joe builds a very fine rifle gun for VERY reasonable cost.

Don, that's a very good looking rifle and I like it. Some might criticize the buck horn rear sight but it's because they don't understand its use. My Tn .32 rifle has a buck horn rear that works perfectly. The bottom notch is for 25yds to 50yds or a little farther. For, say, 100 and up it is a great peep sight, although the specific distances are up to the individual. For long range fun shooting the top opening works like a charm. Congratulations on a really nice SMR Tn squirrel picker.

Thanks Hanshi. I agree with the buckhorn sight. The lower notch is great at 25 - 40 yards. It really does act like a peep sight at further distances. Easy to control left and right impact as well. If it is off, it is because I pulled it by not following through the shot.

Hanshi....I'm another one of those who were guilty of ignorance of the proper use of the buckhorn sight...!!
One of my fellow-travelers at our blackpowder range offered to let me shoot his LH 40 cal. (flint) longrifle a short time back. I've never had a buckhorn sight.
I pulled her up, sighted through the buckhorn at 25 yds, and promptly put a 40 cal hole through the top of the target. I didn't mind the shot placement..this exercise was for familiarity. We loaded her back up, I took careful aim and my second shot went right next to the first one.
Hey, this is good news I thought...so I told my buddy, "I seem to be able to shoot this thing...but I'd have to do some serious cutting on the sights to get her dialed in".
THAT was when he asked me if I had noticed the tiny notch in the BASE of the buckhorn..!!

WELL NOW.

...using the notch...my third shot went in the black, and I was on the phone soon thereafter, ordering a rifle.

I see a Dixie Tennessee Rifle ( either .50 caliber mountain rifle or .32 caliber squirrel rifle. ) I still have my Dixie Tennessee Squirrel Rifle in flintlock. It shoots as good as my three custom squirrel rifles. Heck of a .32 caliber squirrel rifle for a production gun.

If you put enough garlic and hot chill peppers in it, it's not too bad …squirrel that is. I actually like beaver. We roast them , or stew them . I haven't had muskrat since I was a boy in Manitoba. My great Aunt used to can ground hogs. But just the young ones [ Spring ] The older ones taste "earthy"

We've had barbecued beaver at some of our state trapping conventions. Tastes like roast beef. Shreds like roast beef and it is good! I need to watch the person that prepares it, from the field to the table. Have to make sure you don't get any castor on it.

I'm liking the anti-recoil ramrod retainer. Without it the ramrod falls on the ground with each shot.

Since the last wooly mammoths long ago sank into the tar pits, there's not much need for such a pumpkin hurler in these parts.

But back to peashooters. I just remembered that Keb has this Salvo-made .20 cal OTR ash-stocked smoothrifle on his site. Gamo sells .177 cal roundballs. I purely love ths little flinter.

I like big bores and big guns, I love it. Big bores on little targets make you a more accurate shooter, or a hungry hunter. And it's built on the correct side.
