%0 cal, welcome to the ALR.  Do you mean .32 cal., as I've never heard of a CVA .39.  I have built a couple of them for the grandkids, as they are pretty small for an adult to shoot.  They shoot ok, and are fun shooters.  Since most of the guys on this site aren't much into these kind of rifles (commercial, and percussion), though that's where a lot of us started many years ago.  You might get more responses on this type of gun over on the Muzzleloading Forum(www.muzzleloadingforum.com)  The two I built were fun to modify, and slim down, as they like most kits have too much woodand I was able to add some incised carving.  The grandkids can shoot minute of squirrel with them.

This was the last one I did about two years ago for an 11 year old granddaughter.

I ahve heard of the 32's like Bill states, but a 39 would be an oddball.  One company made a 38 designed to take either 375 or 380 ball the same as a 36 cap and ball, but a 39 would be kind of an off caliber.  Its a good way to play with a small bore if you never have.  I enjoy them.

as far as I know the CVA squirrel calibers were either .36 or .32.

That makes sense Neal, Probably a typo.  Even in .36 cal. it would be a fun gun, and would take a .350 ball, though with the .32 you could use the right size buckshot and really shoot inexpensively.

Even if it's a .36 cal, buckshot is still an option - Hornady 000 buck is .350RB.   $25 gets you about 550 of 'em.
