Looking forward to another thread about pistol building. Going to be a pretty good
handful of gun, this one. I believe this piece of maple is American, pretty straight forward, no curls but there might be some "droplets" -or what should I call them?
Best of luck with the build, runastav (as if you need it)  ;)

Regards,
Tor

Tor I believe we refer to those "droplets" as birdseye. It is a very interesting feature of maple! Have fun and be careful because those droplets can pop out of the wood at inopportune times.

I had it in my foreign vocabulary but the brain janitor could not seem to find the stepladder to reach the shelves where it was hiding  ::)

I was fresh out of balsa wood. After all, we're talking about building a sturdy pistol to last generations, not a  copy of the Kon Tiki ;-)

Years ago I read the story of Kon Tiki.As I recall,it was about some
fellows that built a heavy duty raft to go across the ocean with.I also think a man called
Thor Heyrdahl wrote it and another one called "Ra".

Didn't you guys already build some boats and sail to America ?  Come on over--we'll keep the light on for you.  (leave those axes home) good looking pistol runastav, be interested in seeing a target soon. ***If you draw around the lugs with a pencil, solder will roll off and not stick to bbl.  ..Tom

I am new to gun building and I am sorry for probably a common knowledge question. How do you get this length of a drill bit?

You can make your own by welding a rod on. Or buy at Track of the wolf, Muzzleloader Builder's supply, probably McMaster Carr, etc.  For a pistol some local hardware stores carry 12". For a rifle stock most don't want the standard spiral drill though.  http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2014/01/13/suntory-buying-spirits-maker-beam/4450909/   http://www.trackofthewolf.com/List/Item.aspx/1042/1/ROD-DRILL-6

I'm just as interested in/impressed over your tools and work approach as your builds, Runar!
Always glad to see a piece of wood becoming a piece of art.

Best regards, Tor
