It will take me longer to type this out and post the pix than it did to make it.
1. Flat piece of 3-4 oz leather, use what ya got. Size the neck out to the balls it will hold, usually 1 ½ times the ball
size, I make them a little lager.
2. Fold it in half, or use two separate pieces, wet the seam if folded.
3. Draw a pattern on it, use something round that will suit you or make it long, sketch the neck in, it can be
shorter.
4. Mark the stitch holes and punch. Not traditional but I put a bit in the press, works when
your in a hurry.
5. Use a Whip stitch, go through the first hole 3 or 4 times, then start the stitch catching
the tail for the first 4 or 5
holes. If you folded the leather stop at the fold and make 3 or 4 stitches before starting
back, start on the back
and X over each stitch. At the end run a couple of stitches through the last hole then feed the needle back down through
a few stitches. Repeat for the other side. If you started with two pieces just do the same but go all the way
around and them back. I used two plys of Cotton thread with wax om it.
6. Wet it with warm water and force a tapered dowel in it, start with a small diameter and work up to what you
want. Round the end of the dowel and use it to open the pouch up some. Once you can get a ball in it, make
sure it is a loose fit, if necessary go to a larger dowel, pack the pouch with balls to fill out the sides, you will be
surprised at how many will go in. The wet leather will stretch considerably.
7. Whittle out a plug, stick it in an let it dry good. I have used a heat gun on them.
There are other way to make them but this I about the simplest. Any question just ask, I hope this helps.
This one is about 3'X2" and has 27 .36 balls in it.
