That is how I did mine. The remaining rib you cut off the breech section will match perfectly. The idea in the book to make one plug that has an integral rib and keys in to the other plug would be very time consuming to make. The matting on the rib would not match the barrel either.

I am working on a bunch of clay shotguns here for the gun club, nice to have a litle brace from building hehe

The stock begin to look like a stock, it is fat on the midle. PS, historic correkt folks dont ask me wat I use on stock shaping tools/maskines.

Stock shaped, if you are familiar with rotary files(I have used it for many years on metal and wood) its handy around the lock plates see Mr. Brockway use it to

dont blame me if its run over hehe.

I hate to interupt this double gun love fest, but you knowledgable guys do remember that it was the flint double guns poor performance that inspired the invention of the percussion cap.

It is probably just my observation, but I think that if a shotgunner misses a bird, he simply buys a new more expensive gun. And THAT is why the percussion ignition system was invented. Couldn't be the shooter.
